A Step Back In Time | Withernsea

Updated: Oct 5, 2018

Hi everyone, the OTBT fam have been travelling again! This time we went down memory lane and discovered some very old photos along the way of a unique very OTBT place on the east coast, Withernsea!

Withernsea is a small seaside town in the East Riding of Yorkshire. It's most famous landmark is the huge lighthouse that stands at 127ft! Withernsea once had a pier, which was 365m long which gradually reduced in length due to several collisions by local ships until its complete removal in 1903. The pier towers still stand, overlooking the Blue Flag Beach! Opposite the towers is Valley Gardens. A large square with an outside stage for local events to take place.

Fun Fact:

Kenny Baker, the 1933 jazz musician was born in Withernsea!

As a family we have visited this town many, many times, especially during the 80's when this was the place to be on a Sunday afternoon, browsing around the huge outdoor market, which was located on the site of the old train station, followed by fish and chips, ice-cream and of course a good dose of Withernsea, seaside air!

A lot has changed since those days and definitely since the days in these photos. To take a trip down memory lane watch the OTBT video:

We've certainly enjoyed looking and reminiscing through these photographs in these books. Teaching new generations about Withernsea and what it used to be like in it's 'hay-day'. Check out these amazing books for more fascinating photographs and stories of Withernsea.

A NEW PIER

Withernsea could soon be home to a brand new pier with an astounding £8 million investment into the project. Once completed it's hoped to bring lots of tourism to the town. What do you think? Let us know you're thoughts in the comments, we'd love to hear from you. If you'd like to read more about this development click here.
